Azione n°9 – Incubazione
In 2015 Gio Montez was involved in Cuba in the Art-Eco mission promoted by the European Community through the International Committee for the Development of Peoples. The engagement included carrying out a census of local artists and cultural realities and holding a series of meetings with the aim of transmitting to Cuban artists the fundamentals of the Montez experience and starting a discussion on the possibilities of implementing the participatory urban regeneration method for the exercise of free cultural activity and dis-intermediated from State interference. Gio Montez worked in Havana for almost two months, carrying out artistic research with the Cuban resident community.
Action n°9 – Incubazione by Gio Montez celebrates the lifting of the embargo that held Cuban citizens captive for 60 years.
The artist enclosed a cloud of carbon dioxide emitted by a 1930s car still in circulation in Havana inside a glass jar, to export it from Havana to the old continent as if it were an archaeological find. Four other works, three “Ventana Viejas” and a “Bandera Cubana”, are acquired and kept by the C.I.S.P. at the “Castillo del Jardin Tropical” Museum in Havana, Cuba.
The works of the “Incubazione” cycle were presented to the highest local exponents by the then Italian ambassador Carmine Robustelli and the curator Sachie Hernandez. The inauguration was attended by local artists and prominent figures of the Cuban cultural scene including the director of the Cuba Biennial Dr. Jorge Perez Fernandez, the Minister of Culture Rojas and the Director of the Museum of Fine Arts Ana Cristina Perera Escalona.
Four works, three “Ventana Viejas” and one “Bandera Cubana”, are acquired and kept by the C.I.S.P. at the “Castillo del Jardin Tropical” Museum in Havana, Cuba.

In biologia, il processo per cui l’embrione si sviluppa dall’uovo, in quelle specie animali in cui, avvenuta la deposizione, le uova, per poter proseguire e condurre a termine lo sviluppo, abbisognano di condizioni, cure e protezioni particolari: i. naturale, quella compiuta dagli animali stessi, come per es. le chiocce che covano le proprie uova fino alla nascita dei pulcini; i. artificiale, compiuta mantenendo le uova in speciali apparecchi (incubatrici), per il tempo e le condizioni necessarie. 2. Operazione di laboratorio, consistente nel lasciare un materiale biologico (coltura microbica, siero di sangue, omogenato di tessuto, ecc.) per un dato tempo a temperatura controllata (in genere 37 °C) allo scopo di far sviluppare un determinato processo biologico o biochimico. 3. In medicina, periodo che intercorre fra la penetrazione del germe di una malattia infettiva nell’organismo e la comparsa dei primi sintomi della malattia stessa. 4. fig.
